Wolves’ Castore Player of the Month for August, Maximilian Kilman, has been delighted with his start to the 2021/22 season and is enjoying life as a key member of the team under Bruno Lage.
The defender has shown his class since the beginning of this term, playing almost every minute of football in an old gold shirt, while putting in performances which have looked far beyond a player of his experience; being one of just two players to earn player of the month nominations for both August and September.
The 24-year-old, who is already halfway to matching the amount of minutes on the pitch he made last season – despite only seven games having gone in the campaign, knows he needs to keep working hard while he remains at Compton Park while his fellow defenders are on international duty if he is to maintain his place in the starting line-up.
On his season so far
“It’s been fantastic. I’ve been working hard and staying focused. I’m trying to keep working hard, improving and getting better and hoping to stay in the team to do my best for everyone.
“Of course, I’m pleased [with a run in the squad], but I need to keep my head down and not get carried away with it.
“I need to keep working hard and always keep improving.”
On possible international call-ups
“I’m not really thinking about it, to be honest. I just want to perform well week in, week out for Wolves.
“If things like that come in the future, then they come in the future. I'm not worried about it now. “I'm just making sure I keep my head down and do my best for Wolves.”
On a first victory at home this season
“Every game in the Premier League is tough and we really had to manage the game towards the end.
“I thought in the first half we really dominated possession and we had some good chances. If we, maybe, scored the second goal of the game then the game would have been a bit more comfortable.
“Newcastle have some great players, had some good chances and they scored, so we had to show our resilience to come again and get another goal.”
On Jimenez and Hwang link-up
“It was some superb play from Raul and Chan, it shows the quality we have in the squad.
“They are fantastic. Raul’s hold-up play and Chan moving off him, it is working really well at the moment. It’s been good to watch.”
On slight injury against Newcastle
“I’m all good. It was nothing serious, everything is fine. I’m glad I managed to finish the game.”
